Program Goals
Dedication, Perseverance and A Commitment To Our Customers.
At Thomas Angus Ranch, we are dedicated to meeting the needs of our customers and we refuse to be content with our past success or with mediocrity.
Only proven AI Sires are used in the Thomas Angus Ranch program. We are confident that our past success and our continued success will lie around the principle of only using the breed's most proven AI Sires. A study of our pedigrees will find many of the breed's leading and legendary Pathfinder Sires represented and we are confident that using those proven AI Sires as a base for this cow herd has given us the consistency that our commercial customers require when making their purchasing decisions. While we do not chase extremes, we do concentrate on balanced performance
AI Sires and feel confident that we can consistently offer our commercial customers bulls that will fit their needs for calving-ease, growth and carcass traits and in addition, the majority of our bulls selling will offer a combination of all three of these traits. We realize at Thomas Angus Ranch that calving-ease, growth and carcass traits have very little economic impact without first keeping our reproductive traits in line. Reproductive efficiency and the maternal ability of all of our females are closely watched. By using only the breed’s most proven AI Sires, we are confident that our cow herd is one of the most maternal to be found in the world.
The breeding program at Thomas Angus Ranch centers around a 42-day intensive AI program. In less than a two-week period of time, we will calve 75% of our cow herd. By synchronizing all of our females we are able to insure that every Thomas Angus Ranch cow is bred AI. Over the past five years the embryo transfer program at Thomas Angus Ranch has expanded to new heights where today we currently implant more than 500 embryos annually. Many of these embryos are implanted in cooperator herds in our area, which enables us to make progress at an even greater pace.
Just as it was in the early 1960s when Bob Thomas first arrived in Oregon, today we still believe that our customer comes first. Our policy at Thomas Angus Ranch is simple: our customer is always right. With this philosophy in mind, we are continuously listening to the needs of our commercial cattlemen so that we can better breed and develop the genetics that fit into their marketing programs and into their environments.
